Feature Ingredients
The effective functioning of the human digestive process requires the coordinated secretion, delivery, and action of a variety of chemical substances. However, digestive disorders resulting in the malabsorption of food components may arise, and can be caused by many things: cystic fibrosis, chronic pancreatitis, pancreatic resection, or stomach cancer, to name a few. Digestive Enzymes is a blend of enzymes, present in both the stomach and the small intestine, aimed at facilitating digestion. It contains pancreatin, a mix of pancreatic enzymes including protease for the hydrolysis of proteins, amylase for the degradation of starches, and lipase for the digestion of fats. Digestive Enzymes also comprises ox bile salts to aid in gut-fat absorption, and papain, a plant-derived proteolytic enzyme. Furthermore, betaine hydrochloride is found in this supplement; it is a source of hydrochloric acid, which acts in the gastrointestinal tract to activate pepsin, aids in the secretion of pancreatic juices, and allows the absorption of certain inorganic salts.
